Wood Element Liver and Gallbladder

This is the time for renewal and preparing raw and sprouted foods. Cooking foods for shorter time periods is also preferred; such as a quick hot oil saute method or a light steam is ideal.

Foods Which Harmonize the Liver! Sweet flavored foods (grains, beans vegetables and other complex carbohydrates) are ideal for  long term harmonization of liver. Often concentrated sweets will be craved: honey, licorice, unrefined sugar cane, but should be eaten in small amounts. Licorice root is  helpful in the initial stages of detoxification. Barley malt, date sugar, molasses and rice syrup are useful in cases where there is no heat or heat generated wind (dizziness/tremors).

Vinegar is excellent for quickly removing stagnation and symptoms such as indigestion and depression. Use one teaspoon of honey and vinegar in a cup of water. In cases of heat, leamon, lime and grapefruit are more appropriate.

Bitter and sour foods are useful to reduce heaviness and phlegm. Bitter foods include: rye, romaine, lettuce, asparagus, amaranth, quinoa, alfalfa, radish leaves, and citrus peel.

Stretch!

The liver controls the tendons. According to Chinese medicine, the liver stores blood during periods of rest and then releases it to the tendons in times of activity, maintaining tendon healthy and flexibility. Incorporate a morning stretch into your routine. Try yoga or tai qi!

Eat Green! Green is the color of the liver and of springtime. Eating young plants - fresh, leafy greens, sprouts, and immature cereal grasses - can improve the liver's overall function and aid in the movement of qi.

Do more outdoor activities! Outside air helps liver qi flow. If you have been feeling irritable, find an outdoor activity to smooth out that liver qi stagnation. Try hiking or take up jogging.

Get acupuncture treatments! Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can help improve the overall health of your liver as well as treat stress, anger, and frustration, which are often associated with liver qi disharmony.

Modern culture has blessed us with an overabundance of this! Sandy Butz is here to help you manage what's important to you and reduce this burden. Her guidance of the laws of positive attraction will change your life! Group and individual sessions are available!

In the words of TCM classics, "emotional sensibility is our greatest asset in the process of fulfilling human destiny, and the human temperament is our greatest liability due to its vast pathogenic potential."

Water !Drink to thirst at least 30 min. before or after eating. Water recommendations are 8 or more glasses per day. This amount will increase when eating an abundance of meat due to the bodies need to flush out the uric acid and other wastes. Fore every cup of caffeinated beverage consumed you need two cups of water to replenish your fluids in addition to the 8 glasses.

Filtered vrs. Purified! Purified water is a government regulated standard, and is nearly only pure water. Purified water is helpful for cleansing the body, which is especially useful for people with gout, rheumatism, and arthritis.

A water filter removes the suspended material and leaves all minerals and other water soluble substances.
